Why Buy a Used OEM Transfer Case?

Transfer cases on AWD and 4WD vehicles are expensive to replace new — dealer pricing typically runs $1,000–$3,500+ depending on the platform. The majority of used OEM transfer cases in our inventory come from collision-damaged donor vehicles whose drivetrains were completely untouched by the accident. A 48,000-mile Toyota RAV4 that was rear-ended has a transfer case with exactly 48,000 miles of normal highway use. That is what you are buying — original factory assembly, original OEM tolerances, at 50–70% below new dealer cost.

📋 Mileage Documented

Every transfer case listing includes verified donor vehicle mileage — the single most important quality indicator. We never list unknown-mileage units without disclosure.

💧 Fluid Inspected

Each unit is drained and inspected before listing. Clean amber fluid with no metallic debris confirms healthy internal condition. Contaminated units are rejected from our inventory.

🔩 Housing Checked

We inspect every housing for cracks, impact damage, stripped mounting points, and connector condition before any unit is listed or shipped.

Popular Transfer Case Applications We Stock

Toyota AWD Transfer Cases

Toyota's Active Torque Control (ATC) units for RAV4, Highlander, and Venza, and the Aisin-built units for 4Runner, Tacoma, and Tundra, are the most reliable AWD and 4WD transfer cases in the mass market. We stock a wide range of Toyota transfer cases from documented low-mileage donors — among the best-value used OEM drivetrain purchases available.

Honda AWD Rear Drive Units

Honda CR-V, Pilot, Passport, and Ridgeline AWD rear drive units and Power Transfer Units. Honda's Dual Pump System units are mechanically simple with no electronics — extremely long-lived and among the most affordable AWD coupling units in the market.

Ford Transfer Cases

BorgWarner transfer cases for F-150, Expedition, and Explorer, plus the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) for Escape, Edge, and Fusion AWD. Ford's truck and SUV units are heavy-duty and well-suited to towing and off-road applications.

GM Transfer Cases

NP246 and NP263 units for Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, Silverado, GMC Yukon, and Sierra. The NP263 is preferred for towing. We also stock lighter-duty AWD units for Equinox, Terrain, and Traverse.

Jeep Transfer Cases

Wrangler NP231 and NV241OR Rock-Trac units, plus Grand Cherokee Quadra-Trac II and Selec-Trac assemblies. Always confirm your exact system by VIN before ordering — Grand Cherokee variants are not interchangeable.

Subaru AWD Centre Differentials

Outback, Forester, Legacy, and Impreza viscous LSD centre differentials. Mechanically simple, no electronics, and very long-lived with correct fluid maintenance.

Before You Order — Key Fitment Checks

Transfer cases vary significantly within the same model year based on drivetrain configuration, engine, trim level, and transmission type. Always verify the following before ordering:

  • AWD vs. 4WD vs. part-time 4WD: These use entirely different transfer case designs — confirm your system type first
  • Transmission type: Automatic and manual transmission variants of the same vehicle often use different transfer cases
  • Trim level: Higher trims on Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Explorer, and Toyota 4Runner use different transfer case systems than base models
  • Engine variant: Different engine options within the same nameplate sometimes use different transfer case input shaft configurations
⚠️ Check Fault Codes Before Ordering Codes such as C0327 (transfer case encoder motor), C0379 (transfer case shift actuator), or U0102 (lost communication with transfer case) often indicate a failed encoder motor or shift actuator — individual components costing $60–$200 — rather than a failed assembly. A $20 OBD-II scan can save you hundreds before you order a complete replacement unit.
🔧 Installation Note — Always Replace Output Seals Budget $30–$60 for output shaft seals and a new vent tube (Ford PTU applications) when installing any used transfer case. These consumables prevent the most common post-install leaks across all platforms and cost a fraction of the labour to address them after the fact.
